KATHMANDU: Nepal has received emergency relief, financial assistance and other forms of support from 29 countries and major international organisations following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the countries that have expressed solidarity and provided assistance as of Friday afternoon include India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Qatar, Pakistan, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Norway, Israel, Canada, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
The ministry said some countries have provided essential humanitarian supplies, while others have extended financial assistance and other relief materials to support Nepal’s response and recovery efforts.
The European Union, Asian Development Bank, World Bank and United Nations have also extended support to Nepal. Individuals and social organisations have likewise announced assistance for the flood-affected people.
The Government of Nepal has expressed gratitude to all countries, international organisations, individuals and organisations for their solidarity and support during the disaster.
Meanwhile, forensic teams from four countries have arrived in Nepal to assist in identifying victims of the floods. Teams from India, China, Singapore and South Korea are working with Nepal Police and other concerned agencies to expedite the collection and analysis of DNA samples and the identification of recovered human remains.
The deployment of the international forensic teams is expected to help speed up the identification process and provide affected families with information about their missing relatives.
