KATHMANDU: The Central Zoo has called on the public to immediately report any cases of wild animals found injured, orphaned, or in distress.
According to Zoo Chief Satyanarayan Shah, the zoo dispatches trained rescue teams as soon as such incidents are reported.
“We have an experienced rescue team that operates not just within the Kathmandu Valley, but across the country,” Shah said.
He shared that two leopards were recently rescued in Ramechhap through swift coordination between the zoo and relevant agencies. The operation was successfully completed shortly after the information was received.
Shah also noted that while the central team is active in Kathmandu Valley, the zoo has established rescue branches in Chitwan, Bardiya, Shuklaphanta, and Koshi areas to ensure timely interventions.
He urged the public to avoid attacking, neglecting, or mishandling wild animals and instead inform the nearest agency or the zoo. Prompt reporting, he emphasized, plays a critical role in wildlife conservation efforts.
