KATHMANDU: The government has announced the recipients of the Prime Minister’s National Talent Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of peace, good governance, innovation, scientific discovery, research, and development.

The announcement was made during the main ceremony at Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on National Democracy Day 2025.

This year’s awardees include Dr Tshiring Lama from Sindhupalchowk for his work in telemedicine, Dr Biraj Singh Thapa from Morang for his innovation in science and technology, and Purnima Shrestha from Gorkha for her record-breaking achievements in mountaineering.

Abhash Maskey from Kathmandu and Hariram Shrestha from Gorkha have been recognized for their contributions to science and technology. Dr Om Murthy Anil from Mahottari has been honored for his excellence in medicine, while Sabitra Bhandari from Lamjung has received the award for her achievements in sports.

Rabindra Puri from Bhaktapur is being recognized for his work in heritage conservation, and Dilshobha Shrestha from Kathmandu and Ramji Adhikari from Gorkha have been awarded for their dedication to humanitarian and social service.

The award will be presented at a special ceremony.

The Prime Minister’s National Talent Award was established by the government on December 3, 2018, to honor exceptional talents in Nepal.

The award fund was created with USD 100,000 received by then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the Korean government, along with an additional Rs 10 million from the Government of Nepal.

Initially, two individuals were selected each year to receive Rs 500,000 from the fund.

The first awards were presented in 2019, but the following years saw a pause due to the Covid pandemic.

With its revival this year, the government aims to continue celebrating and encouraging innovation and excellence in Nepal.
