Madhesh to launch integrated model agriculture programme in 10 local units

KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Geeta Chaudhary has announced that an integrated model agriculture programme will be launched in 10 local units of Madhesh Province to boost agricultural productivity and improve services for farmers.

Addressing a high-level meeting on federal-provincial coordination, Minister Chaudhary said the selected municipalities and rural municipalities would be chosen based on recommendations from the provincial government.

She said the programme would prioritise agricultural research, technology transfer and organic farming, with the goal of delivering technical services directly to farmers.

Emphasising the need to shift focus from policy formulation to implementation, Chaudhary said the initiative aims to bring research outcomes to farmers’ fields, increase agricultural production and provide practical knowledge on modern farming technologies.

According to the minister, the programme will prioritise technical support, farmer training, advisory services and the transfer of agricultural technologies.

She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting organic farming, preserving soil fertility, ensuring safe food production and developing a sustainable agricultural system.

Chaudhary stressed the importance of effective coordination among the federal, provincial and local governments, along with the efficient mobilisation of resources and joint planning to achieve sustainable development in the agriculture, forestry and environment sectors.

She also pledged that the federal government would give priority to addressing recommendations put forward by the Madhesh provincial government.

At the meeting, Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav said the provincial government remains fully committed to implementing agricultural programmes effectively in coordination and partnership with the federal government.
