KATHMANDU: Dengue infections have declined significantly in the district over the past year, with health officials attributing the drop to increased public awareness, active involvement of local governments and the effectiveness of the “Search and Destroy” campaign targeting mosquito breeding sites.
According to the District Health Office, 601 dengue cases were recorded in the last fiscal year (2025/26), a sharp decline from 2,000 cases reported in the previous fiscal year (2024/25).
District Health Office Chief Brij Kumar Das said the Aedes mosquito, which transmits dengue, breeds in clean, stagnant water. To curb its spread, all 15 local governments in the district have been conducting annual “Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites” campaigns.
Das said coordinated efforts with local governments, regular sanitation drives and public awareness programmes have contributed to the positive results in controlling dengue transmission.
