Water Supply Department achieves 90% financial progress

KATHMANDU: The Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management under the Ministry of Water Supply has reported significant financial performance for the recently concluded fiscal year, achieving a financial progress rate of 90.10%.

This marks a notable improvement compared to the previous fiscal year, when progress stood at only 63%.

According to figures made public by the department on Thursday, the success is attributed to timely implementation of plans, enhanced monitoring, policy-level guidance, and strengthened inter-agency coordination.

Director General Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha credited the achievement to the department’s active and result-oriented approach, thanking the Ministry of Water Supply and Ministry of Finance for their continued support.

Among the department’s projects, the Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Project in Banke recorded the highest financial progress at 97.83%, followed closely by Ramechhap (96.91%), Rupandehi (95.94%), Myagdi (95.62%), and Kaski (95.42%).

Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply, Engineer Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, noted that the leap in financial performance is due to the minister’s clear instructions and the department’s dedication. She described the progress as a “positive and encouraging” development for the entire sector.

In addition to financial gains, the department achieved several administrative and operational milestones. Fifteen offices were made permanent this year, and source agreements were signed for 81 new projects with a combined value of Rs 11.63 billion.

Among major initiatives, the Bheri Pumping Project—supported by the World Bank—was finalized, while preparatory work for a contract invitation under the Asian Development Bank’s integrated project is also underway, expected within the next two months.

The Department expressed optimism that this year’s achievements will set the stage for even more effective and transparent project implementation in the upcoming fiscal year.
