Gunshot fired at Suddhodhan Rural Municipality chair’s house



KAPILVASTU: Kamalesh Sharan Chaudhary, the chairperson of Suddhodhan Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu district, was reportedly targeted in a shooting incident at his residence late Thursday night.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohan Mani Adhikari, spokesperson for the Kapilvastu District Police Office, the gunshot was fired at around 11:30 pm at Chaudhary’s residence in Ward No. 1, Pakdi, Mayadevi Rural Municipality.

Chaudhary informed police that the incident occurred while he was returning from the toilet during a power outage. He said he heard the sound of a gunshot and later discovered that a bullet had struck the wall of the house.

DSP Adhikari confirmed that a bullet casing was recovered from the scene. No injuries have been reported so far.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Police have intensified investigations into the incident, including the examination of nearby CCTV footage and inquiries with locals.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the shooting was a targeted attack or an act of intimidation. Security around the chairperson has been heightened as a precaution.

Chaudhary, a local elected representative, has held the position of rural municipality chair since the 2022 local elections.
