GANDAKI: Pokhara Metropolitan City in Kaski has launched free screening and consultation services for non-communicable diseases, targeting elderly, disabled, and vulnerable citizens under its ‘Door-to-Door Health Program’.
The initiative, organized by the Metropolitan Health Division in coordination with the Urban Health Promotion Center, is being expanded to other wards and neighborhoods.
Center Chief Kushmaraj Subedi said the mobile campaign aims to deliver health services directly to the homes of elderly and disabled individuals.
In addition to screenings for non-communicable diseases, the program also raises awareness about reproductive health, conducts check-ups for mental health and communicable diseases, and addresses other chronic health issues.
According to him, mobile health camps will be conducted in 17 neighborhoods of the ward. More than 300 individuals benefited from the camps held on Sunday and Monday in Ward No. 8.
“This initiative was launched to offer check-ups, treatment, and counseling by reaching the neighborhoods of senior and disabled citizens,” said Mayor Subedi.
“We monitor whether patients with chronic illnesses are taking their medications regularly and provide free medicines listed by the government.”
Community-level health awareness and promotion programs are also being carried out. Patients identified during screenings as needing hospital care are given appropriate advice and referrals.
The Health Division plans to extend non-communicable disease screening and counseling services to other wards of the metropolis beyond Ward No. 8.
Mayor Dhanraj Acharya reaffirmed the city’s commitment to public health, announcing that the door-to-door health service program will be expanded to all wards.
Last year, the city had launched a similar ‘Citizen Health Program’ in Ward No. 25, Hemja, offering free health check-ups, consultations, and treatment at home for senior citizens, the disabled, and the helpless.
