Three killed after being hit by uprooted trees in windstorm



KATHMANDU: Three people lost their lives and seven others were injured in separate incidents caused by trees uprooted during a windstorm in Nawalparasi and Kailali, according to police reports.

In West Nawalparasi, Mira Byambu, 30, and Durga Bahadur Pun, 40, both residents of Ward No. 7 of Sunwal Municipality, died after a tree fell on a roadside waiting shed where they had taken shelter from the rain.

The incident occurred last evening, informed Santosh Poudel, Chief of the Area Police Office in Sunwal. Three others were injured in the same incident.

In Kailali, Karna Bhandari, a teacher, was killed when a tree brought down by strong winds struck him, the District Police Office reported.

In a separate incident in Kolhabi-3, Bara, a tree felled by the wind hit a moving car, injuring local resident Sikendra Chaudhary.

The windstorm also caused significant damage in other districts including Sarlahi, where rooftops were blown off and fruit crops such as mangoes and litchis were damaged.

Additional districts affected by the storm include Kanchanpur, Chitwan, Udayapur, Siraha, and others, where varying degrees of property and agricultural damage have been reported.
