1,719 drivers penalised in Kathmandu Valley for traffic rule violations



KATHMANDU: A total of 1,719 drivers were penalised in the past 24 hours for violating traffic rules in the Kathmandu Valley, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

Among those booked were 113 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, 35 for operating vehicles in poor mechanical condition, 102 for violating traffic lights, and 93 for overspeeding.

Similarly, 179 drivers were penalised for failing to follow lane discipline, while 38 public transport vehicles were found operating in an unsafe manner.

Traffic police also took action against 46 drivers for unnecessary honking and 20 for picking up or dropping passengers at undesignated locations. Another 1,093 drivers were penalised for other types of traffic rule violations.

The office said that the traffic actions generated a total revenue of Rs 1,184,500 for the state treasury.
