Opposition parties’ postponed press conference to take place today



KATHMANDU: Federal parliament’s opposition parties are set to hold a press conference today.

Initially scheduled for yesterday (Thrusday), the press conference was postponed at the last minute and rescheduled for today (Friday). While the event is announced for 3 PM, the venue has not been disclosed yet.

The opposition’s joint meeting on Wednesday had agreed to demand the government convene the winter session of parliament. Following this decision, they had planned to organize a press conference yesterday.

However, due to the postponement, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ traveled to Madi, Chitwan.

During the meeting, representatives from six opposition parties expressed concerns over the government’s tendency to govern through ordinances and reached a consensus to request a special session if the regular session is not called promptly.

To prepare for the press conference, a two-member task force comprising CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Barshaman Pun and CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Beduram Bhusal was formed.

The task force was tasked with drafting a unified stance for the opposition, but delays in completing the draft led to the postponement of the press conference to today.
