No breakthrough in Alaska talks as Trump, Putin fail to reach Ukraine agreement

ALASKA: US President Donald Trump and Russia President Vladimir Putin concluded nearly three hours of discussions in Alaska without reaching an agreement on the Ukraine conflict.

Speaking to the press afterward, Trump remarked that “there’s no deal until there’s a deal,” but claimed some progress had been made. Putin expressed a genuine interest in ending the war but offered no specific details. Neither leader took questions following the meeting.

For Trump—who often promotes himself as both a peacemaker and a skilled negotiator—the outcome was a letdown, as he departed Alaska without securing either.

The two leaders had shared a cordial moment earlier on the Anchorage tarmac, exchanging handshakes before riding together in Trump’s limousine to the summit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was not invited to the talks, criticized the meeting, noting that Russian forces continued attacks during the negotiations.

He reiterated the need for a three-party summit involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia.
