Windstorms likely in five provinces; rain and snowfall forecast



KATHMANDU: Changing weather patterns triggered by a westerly disturbance and local wind systems are set to affect much of the country today, with forecasts indicating windstorms across several Terai districts and rain and snowfall in hilly and mountainous regions.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, this afternoon, hilly and mountainous areas—particularly in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces—are expected to remain generally cloudy, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere.

The Division has forecast moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light rain or snowfall is also likely at one or two locations in other hilly areas, including parts of the Terai in Sudurpaschim.

There is a possibility of windstorms in some Terai areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, similar conditions are expected to persist, with generally cloudy weather in hilly and mountainous regions and partly cloudy skies elsewhere.

Moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning may occur at a few places in Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in mountainous areas of other provinces.

Light precipitation is also likely at isolated locations in remaining hilly regions and parts of the Terai in Sudurpaschim. Windstorms may continue in some Terai areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
