Rajendra Lingden accuses govt of prohibition politics

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chair Rajendra Lingden has accused the government of violating the constitution and promoting what he called prohibition politics.

Speaking during an emergency session of the House of Representatives on Friday, Lingden alleged that individuals were being detained and humiliated merely for holding dissenting views.

He specifically pointed to the arrest of Rabindra Mishra and others, calling it a breach of constitutional and democratic principles.

Lingden also criticized the government for the arrest of the central president of the RPP-affiliated Youth Democratic Association by the Cyber Bureau.

He said this was further evidence of a systematic effort to suppress alternative voices.

“If this formal policy of prohibition against different opinions continues, we will be forced to rebel,” he warned.

Lingden condemned the government’s actions as a violation of human rights, the constitution, and fundamental democratic freedoms.
