KMC takes action against city police after viral video incident



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken disciplinary action after a video showing alleged harassment of a garbage collector by municipal police went viral on social media on Wednesday morning.

The incident reportedly took place at 8 a.m. in the Baluwatar area of Ward No. 4, where municipal police personnel were seen confronting a garbage collector riding a bicycle.

In response, KMC has dismissed the officers involved in the incident, citing unprofessional behavior.

Metropolitan Police Chief Rajunath Pandey confirmed in a statement issued Wednesday that those involved have been relieved of their duties. However, the statement did not specify the names or the exact number of officers dismissed.

“The city will not tolerate such unprofessional conduct, especially towards workers who play a crucial role in keeping our city clean,” the statement read.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism online, with many users calling for accountability and dignity for sanitation workers.
