KATHMANDU: The faction of former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has finalized its list of active members ahead of the party’s 15th General Convention.
The Deuba faction has formed a General Convention Preparation Committee under the leadership of Dr Shashank Koirala. The details of the active members were handed over to Election Committee Coordinator Ekaraj Pokharel on Saturday in the presence of Koirala.
The details were handed over at a press conference held at the party’s liaison office in Chundevi, Kathmandu. The faction said the list contains 783,836 active members.
The party has prioritized the use of digital technology to strengthen its organization and make the General Convention process more systematic. A new website has also been launched to facilitate the distribution and renewal of active memberships.
According to Kiran Poudel, coordinator of the Active Membership Management Committee, the list includes 573,269 renewed memberships and 210,567 new memberships, bringing the total to 783,836.
Poudel said membership disputes had affected previous General Conventions and that all membership details had been finalized and submitted to the Election Committee this time.
Election Committee Coordinator Pokharel said preparations were underway to complete the convention within the scheduled timeframe. He said ward-level conventions across the country would begin on Ashoj 15, with arrangements in place to publish the results promptly.
He also said people wishing to apply for membership in the future would be able to begin the process online.
Website developer Gyanendra Bhatt said the website was developed in just four days and includes a high level of cybersecurity. Although it is currently focused on new membership applications, he said it would be further developed and expanded in the future.
