43 deaths from venomous snake bites in Sudurpaschim over two years

SUDURPASCHIM: In the past two years, 43 people have died in Sudurpaschim Province due to venomous snake bites.

According to the Provincial Police Office, many victims were bitten by snakes but could not reach a hospital in time for treatment. Some fatalities occurred when people sought help from snake charmers instead of immediately visiting a medical facility.

Senior Superintendent of Police Prakash Ranabhat, the Provincial Police Office’s information officer, said that 23 people died from snake bites in the fiscal year 2023/24, 17 in 2024/25, and three so far this year.

By district, Kailali recorded 24 deaths, Kanchanpur 10, and Baitadi and Dadeldhura three each. Similarly, one person each died in Doti, Darchula, and Achham. Snakebite cases in Nepal are most frequent between April and September.
