Nepal drops one spot in FIFA Women’s Rankings

KATHMANDU: Nepal has slipped one position to 100th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released by football’s global governing body.

Previously ranked 99th, Nepal’s points tally dropped by 0.12, pushing the team down to the 100th spot. Among Asian nations, Nepal is now ranked 20th.

Nepal had moved up four places earlier this year after an impressive performance in a home-based four-nation tournament in February, where they defeated Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan, drew one match with Myanmar, and lost to Myanmar in the final.

However, the recent double defeat against Thailand in two friendly matches appears to have contributed to the drop in the latest rankings.

At the top of the global rankings, the United States remains in first place, followed by Spain and Germany. Brazil has moved up to fourth, while England has dropped to fifth. Among Asian teams, Japan slipped two places and now sits at seventh globally.

In the men’s FIFA rankings, Nepal is currently ranked 175th.
