Boy goes missing after drowning in Siraha’s Balan river

SIRAHA: A 14-year-old boy, Ghanshyam Yadav, son of Shiva Kumar Yadav of Pariyarpur in Sakhuwanankarkatti Rural Municipality-3 in Sariha district, has gone missing after drowning in the Balan River.

Ghanshyam was bathing in the river on Monday when he drowned. Despite continuous efforts, he had not been found as of Monday evening.

A trained disaster response team—including personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents—has been mobilized since morning to search for him, according to Naresh Bhandari, Chief of the Armed Police Force No. 7 Battalion and Superintendent of Armed Police.

Bhandari said that murky water and moving sand deposits in the river have made the search extremely difficult. “There is a lot of sand in the river, which we suspect may have buried the boy,” he said.

Due to the river’s strong current, depth, and overall risk, the Armed Police Force requested a diving team through the Provincial Office in Bardibas. The diving team is expected to arrive at the site only on Monday morning.

Bhandari also noted that coordination has been made with Indian security personnel, considering the possibility that the river might have carried the boy across the border.
