KAPILVASTU: Police have arrested five women with more than 15 kg of suspected hashish and opium while they were allegedly attempting to take the drugs from Krishnanagar in Kapilvastu to India.
A police team deployed for patrol in the old bus park area of Krishnanagar Municipality-2 stopped and searched the five women as they were heading toward India from Nepal.
Police said they recovered 5 kg 225 grams of a black substance suspected to be hashish and 10 kg of a substance suspected to be opium. Five mobile phones were also seized from the suspects.
The arrested women have been identified as Rajita Rokaya and Bimala Pun of Dang, Panisara Saru and Nansari Gharti Magar of Kapilvastu, and Chuma Lamichhane of Parsa.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh of the District Police Office, an investigation has been launched against the five women on drug-related charges.
Singh said the seized substances are being tested and that police are investigating other individuals and possible networks linked to the incident.
