EVs awaiting clearance damaged in Rasuwa flood

RASUWA: Several vehicles, including newly imported electric vehicles (EVs), were swept away by a massive flood in the Lhende River at the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa district on July 8.

The flood struck the customs yard where the vehicles, mostly EVs brought from China, were parked, awaiting customs clearance. Many of the vehicles that were not swept away were left submerged in mud and debris.

According to security personnel involved in the rescue operation, at least eight missing EVs have been recovered so far. However, the condition of other vehicles, including those still at the Timure customs yard, is said to be severely damaged.

The NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal has expressed concern over the incident, stating that the flood has dealt a major blow to Nepal’s automobile import system, particularly affecting the supply chain of EVs from China.
