House committee to host Hindu Kush Himalaya Conference in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources has announced plans to organize the ‘Hindu Kush Himalaya Parliamentary Conference’ in Kathmandu in August.

At a press conference held on Monday at Singha Durbar, the committee revealed that the conference will be held on August 18-19 with coordination from the Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Planning Commission, along with technical support from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The conference will be inaugurated by President Ram Chandra Paudel and will feature participation from representatives of Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Pakistan, according to committee member and MP Bir Bahadur Balayar.

Discussions at the conference will focus on climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity. The committee highlighted the importance of the event for knowledge exchange on issues such as biodiversity loss in the Hindu Kush region, air pollution, and the significant impacts of rapid economic and social changes on human life.

Committee Chairperson Kusum Devi Thapa highlighted that the conference will also address the environmental changes affecting the Himalayan region and the implications of these changes.
