Bailey bridge yet to be installed on Tilabe river in Parsa

BIRGUNJ: Despite earlier announcements by the Road Department, a Bailey bridge has not yet been installed over the Tilabe River in Parsa.

The Department has canceled the bid for the construction of the proposed steel Bailey bridge.

The Tilabe Bridge, which lies on the border of Birgunj Metropolitan City and Bahudarmai Municipality and connects the rural areas of Parsa, was damaged by flooding during the rainy season of 2024.

As a result, vehicular movement has been halted due to the compromised condition of the bridge, especially after a flood undermined one of its pillars.

Manoj Kumar Patel, head of the Narayani Irrigation Management Office, stated that the contract for the approach road and bridge installation was canceled because the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport was unable to supply the required steel Bailey bridge.

“Earlier, the Road Department had announced a Rs 33 million contract for the construction of the Bailey bridge and approach road, with plans to complete the project within the current fiscal year,” said Patel.

“The bids were called for installation within a week, but the work was halted with the onset of the monsoon.”

Patel added that the process of re-inviting bids for the bridge and approach road will move forward as soon as the new fiscal year begins.
