At Bhadrapur Airport, Durga Prasai says: “Fight against smugglers, I came willingly, I fear no one”

KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, who was arrested by Nepal Police near the Bhadrapur border on Friday, has stated that he is not afraid.

Prasai, who played a prominent role in the violent pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu on March 28, was apprehended and subsequently brought to the capital.

He was transported in a police van to Bhadrapur Airport, where he briefly spoke to reporters.

As officers escorted him toward the airport terminal, he managed to say three things: “I am not afraid. This is a fight against smugglers. I submitted to arrest,” before being pushed along by police personnel.

Although officially arrested in Bhadrapur, it has been reported that Prasai was actually taken into custody in Assam, India.

Due to the absence of an extradition treaty between Nepal and India, he was informally transferred across the border. To address technical and legal formalities, his arrest was formally recorded in Bhadrapur.

From there, he was flown to Kathmandu on a Buddha Air flight and is now in police custody in the capital.
