NRB slashes debit card transaction limits

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has reduced the transaction limits for debit card users, lowering withdrawal ceilings by 20 to 50 percent.

Under the new directive issued Friday, the maximum Automated Teller Machine (ATM) withdrawal limit per transaction using a debit card has been reduced from Rs 25,000 to Rs 20,000.

The daily withdrawal limit is now set at Rs 50,000, down from Rs 100,000, while the monthly limit has been lowered to Rs 300,000 from the previous Rs 400,000.

However, the central bank has kept the transaction limits for prepaid cards issued by banks and financial institutions unchanged—Rs 10,000 per transaction, Rs 20,000 per day, and Rs 200,000 per month.

Similarly, there has been no change to the credit card limits. The existing limits for prepaid cards issued by non-banking service providers—Rs 5,000 per day and Rs 25,000 per month—also remain the same.
