Nearly Rs 4 billion in overdue milk payments cleared for farmers

KATHMANDU: After months of delays, nearly Rs 4 billion in dues owed to dairy farmers have finally been paid.

The Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has cleared around Rs 1 billion, while private dairy industries have paid nearly Rs 3 billion, providing significant relief to agitating farmers. Both state-owned and private dairies managed to release the payments by selling accumulated milk powder and butter stored in their warehouses.

According to DDC, around Rs 450 million, equivalent to three months of pending dues, still remains to be paid. Meanwhile, private dairies have settled most of their outstanding payments.

The Ministry of Agriculture said milk production in the country has been increasing in recent months.
