Illegally operated mining industry shut down in Bhojpur

BHOJPUR: Authorities have shut down an illegally operated mining (crusher) industry in Leguwaghat of Arun Rural Municipality-6, Bhojpur.

The industry had been running for years without completing any legal procedures. It was closed after an on-site inspection by the District Monitoring Committee found it was illegally extracting natural resources, said Kamal Thulung, Chief of the District Coordination Committee.

Thulung said monitoring of other crusher industries in the district is also underway, and added that the unit will not be allowed to resume operations until it fulfills all required legal processes.

The crusher was operating just 300 meters from a motorable bridge along the Leguwa-Bhojpur road section and only 60 meters from the Arun River, violating mandatory distance rules.

As per legal provisions, crusher industries must be at least 500 meters away from human settlements, but this unit was found only about 350 meters from Leguwa Bazaar in Bhojpur and Ram Bazaar in Dhankuta.
