Communications Minister Kharel stresses on relevancy of postal service



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has stated that the postal service is not outdated even today, underlining the necessity of transforming it in line with the demands of the time.

“The necessity and relevance of the postal service has not faded,” he said, emphasizing the need to make it more advanced, competitive, and commercial.
He further stressed the importance of increasing its accessibility to citizens, adding that the government is fully committed to strengthening postal services.

Secretary at the Ministry, Radhika Aryal, argued that although the postal service has been overshadowed due to the development of information technology and changes in government policy, there is a pressing need to transform it into a smart service through the use of IT.

Director General of the Department of Postal Services, Manamaya Bhattarai Pangeni, urged the government to take steps to promote and modernize the service.

On the occasion, the Minister affixed the first cancellation marks on postage stamps featuring the Nepali cricket teams (Women’s and Qualified U-20), the Laxmi Narayan Temple located in Matihani of Mahottari, the Sija Jhong Cave of Lomanthang in Mustang, and education expert Dr Harka Bahadur Budha Mangar.

World Post Day 2025 was observed today under the theme: “Post for People: Local Service. Global Reach.”
