Traffic still remains blocked on various highways



KATHMANDU: Road transport continues to be affected in the major roads in Rasuwa, Sankhuwasabha, Kavre and Rukum (east) due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains a few days ago.

As a result, many who had left Kathmandu Valley to their village homes for Dashain festival have been facing difficulties in returning to their workplace and temporary residence. Spokesperson of the Department of Roads Prabhat Kumar Jha said that the repair work of the blocked road sections has been given top priority.

President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, Bijay Bahadur Swar, said that due to the road blockages, especially in the eastern part of Nepal, vehicles that left the valley have not returned on time. We have used alternative routes wherever possible,” he said.

“This time however, the government authorizes were found to be working in a timely manner to repair the road sections blocked due to disasters,” he added

The Pasang Lhamu road section in the Baluwakhani and Tatopani areas of remain completely blocked after a dry landslide. The section has also been completely blocked after the Bhotekoshi River cut off about 35-40 meters of the road in the Gosainkunda-3.

The Khandbari-Thumsur section has been blocked after floods washed away a temporary water draining near Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 in Sankhuwasabha.

Similarly, the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section under the Koshi Highway near Makalu Rural Municipality-3 has also been completely blocked due to landslides.

The BP Highway remains completely shut after floods and landslides near Mamtikhola, Dalabansi and Buldhunga in Roshi Rural Municipality-11 of Kavre. The department has stated that cleaning and repair work is underway.

The Mid-Hill Highway located in Kandabagar, Bhume Rural Municipality-4, Rukum (East) was completely blocked by a landslide on Tuesday evening.
According to the department, 174 roadways across the country are operation for one-way traffic.
