Muktinath Temple premises upgraded to be more visitor-friendly

MUSTANG: The premises of Muktinath Temple, a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists located in Mustang, have been upgraded to enhance visitor convenience.

The improvement project was carried out with a budget of Rs. 900,000 allocated by the Social Development Office, Mustang, for the current fiscal year.

Office Chief Nirpati Darji stated that roofing stones have been laid across the temple premises without altering the existing structure.

The work was undertaken through a quotation-based contract, and Khinga Construction was tasked with laying the roofing stones in key areas—including the temple grounds, the water tank, and the path leading to the 108 sacred water spouts (Dhara).

Lakpatasi Gurung, a representative from the construction company, stated that while 3,140 square feet of paving stones have been installed, the work could not be completed fully due to budget limitations.

Rabin Subedi, an employee of the Muktinath Temple Development Committee, noted that the newly laid paving stones have made the temple premises more accessible for pilgrims.

“The area in front of the temple and near the 108 Dhara was previously uneven and worn out,” he said. “Now, the surface has been leveled and improved, making it easier for devotees.”

In addition to the paving work, the committee has also installed a 200-liter electric dispenser to provide pure hot drinking water year-round.

Subedi shared that this initiative was made possible through the efforts of Committee Chairman and Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal. “Providing hot water helps reduce the risk of health issues for devotees visiting this high-altitude location,” he added.

To further ensure safety, railings have been installed near the 108 taps, where pilgrims traditionally bathe. With more than 700,000 domestic and international visitors arriving at Muktinath Temple each year, these upgrades aim to improve comfort, safety, and access for all.
