Land ownership certificates distributed to landless people in Banke

BANKE: The Land Problems Resolution Commission has begun distributing land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) to landless individuals in Banke, including landless Dalits, squatters, and other unorganized settlers.

According to Ghananath Khanal, Chairperson of the Land Problems Resolution Commission District Committee, Banke, the commission has so far distributed landownership certificates to 117 landless Dalits and squatters in Kohalpur Municipality-1.

Preparations are underway to distribute certificates to an additional 68 unorganized settlers in the same ward.

Khanal said the commission is working in a procedural and phased manner to address land issues in Kohalpur, Baijnath, Khajura, Janaki, Rapti Sonari, and Narainapur rural municipalities.

He urged field technicians to provide full cooperation and avoid getting entangled in minor disputes. A seven-day public notice has been issued for the registration of land in the names of 68 unorganized settlers in Kohalpur-1.

Khanal informed that household heads have been instructed to pay the required revenue amount and appear at the office within the given timeframe.

“Once the procedures outlined in the notice are fulfilled and the required documents are submitted, the landownership certificates will be issued,” he said.

The Commission has also published a notice for objections regarding 864 additional unorganized settlers in Kohalpur-1.

Meanwhile, the committee has also started distributing landownership certificates in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-9. Ward Chair Sohan Lal Tharu said that landless squatters in the ward who had long awaited land rights have now received nissa (land measurement documents), paving the way for them to receive full landownership certificates.

Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality Chair Tapta Poudel requested the District Committee of the Land Problems Resolution Commission to give special attention to addressing land issues in Rapti Sonari, which accounts for 51 percent of the district’s land area.
