KATHMANDU: The European Union Delegation to Nepal hosted a two-day commercial mission of the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI), offering European investors a closer look at Nepal’s evolving business climate and emerging investment prospects. The mission concluded on May 7.
According to a press note from the organisers, the visit aimed to provide European businesses with a deeper understanding of Nepal’s ongoing policy reforms, sectoral priorities, and overall investment potential.
During the mission, the delegation held high-level meetings with Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey, Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, and CEO of the Investment Board Nepal Sushil Gyawali.
EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo lauded Nepal’s recent efforts to attract foreign investment despite persistent challenges. She emphasized the EU’s increasing shift toward direct investment, aligned with Nepal’s national development priorities, and called for deeper EU-Nepal business collaboration to unlock greater economic opportunities.
Nepali stakeholders presented detailed briefings on recent policy reforms, investment goals, and long-term plans, encouraging European businesses to seize the growing trade and investment opportunities in the country.
A key milestone of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FEBI and the European Economic Chamber Nepal. The agreement aims to foster institutional cooperation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and enhance business-to-business (B2B) engagement between European investors and Nepali enterprises.
The FEBI delegation also held targeted discussions with honorary consuls, investment bankers, and sectoral leaders from the energy, aviation, and IT industries to explore potential partnerships and strengthen commercial ties.
As part of the mission, a broad policy dialogue was organized with representatives from investment think tanks, ministries, agencies, and the business community.
The FEBI mission also serves as a precursor to the EU-Nepal Business Forum 2025, scheduled for November this year.
