Communication Minister urges media to embrace new online registration process

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the new provision regarding the registration of online media should be accepted and implemented.

Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwar on Wednesday, Minister Gurung stated that since the law has already been passed by Parliament, everyone must now comply with the provision requiring online media to register through District Administration Offices.

He further remarked that he was unaware when the new provision was passed by the House, clarifying that the matter of amending certain Nepal Acts falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Law, not the Ministry of Communication.

Following recent amendments to some Nepal Acts, including the Press and Publication Act, 2048, the registration process for online media has now been mandated to go through the District Administration Office.
