Flood washes away diversion on Narayangadh-Butwal road section

NAWALPARASI: A diversion constructed at Dumkibas in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Sustapur) along the Narayangadh-Butwal road section has been completely washed away by flooding, disrupting traffic in the area.

The temporary road over the Dumkibas River in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-1 was swept away by floodwaters this afternoon, halting movement on both sides.

According to Yadav Dhakal, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, passengers and small vehicles are being rerouted through an inner alternative road via Hongsi Gate, while freight vehicles have been stopped and are being managed on a single lane. Repair work on the diversion will begin once the river’s water level subsides.

Traffic had been operating on the diversion since the collapse of the old bridge at Dumkibas, when it gave way under the weight of a heavy Indian truck.

The Butwal-Narayangadh Road Project has said the new bridge over the Binayi River will be completed and operational before the onset of the monsoon.

Meanwhile, the damaged bridge at Chormara in Madhyabindu Municipality-7 along the East-West Highway resumed operation this afternoon.
