Leftist leader Pradeep Nepal passes away at 71



KATHMANDU: Veteran leftist leader and former minister Pradeep Nepal has passed away at the age of 71.

He died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital, where he had been admitted to the ICU on Monday after his health condition worsened.

Unified Socialist Party leader Mohan Gautam confirmed Nepal’s passing on Tuesday afternoon.

Nepal had been battling Parkinson’s disease and had distanced himself from active politics in recent months due to his declining health.

Though he had earlier left the CPN-UML to join the Unified Socialist Party, Gautam noted that Nepal had become largely inactive due to his illness. “He was a leader of the Unified Socialist Party but had withdrawn from political activities in recent times,” Gautam said.
