Bill Gates and Binod Chaudhary meet in Singapore

KATHMANDU: Chaudhary Group Chairman and Member of Parliament (MP) Binod Chaudhary met Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates during the Philanthropy Asia Alliance 2025 (PAA-2025) conference held in Singapore on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Chaudhary Group, the two held in-depth discussions on the key challenges facing Nepal’s healthcare and employment sectors.

Chaudhary expressed his appreciation for the Gates Foundation’s support during critical times, including the 2015 earthquake, the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts to improve child nutrition under the “Strong Nepal” initiative.

Chaudhary shared via social media that the meeting explored ways to deepen and expand the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s long-standing engagement in Nepal’s social sector.

The discussion also included the possibility of implementing in Nepal the health and employment initiatives that the Gates Foundation has successfully carried out in other countries, tailoring them to local needs and contexts.

Following the 2015 earthquake, the Chaudhary Foundation, the social arm of Chaudhary Group, provided substantial support to the government’s relief efforts.

It constructed approximately 3,000 earthquake-resistant temporary shelters and carried out school reconstruction, food aid, and water distribution in affected communities.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Foundation played a vital role by enhancing Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure. It established ICUs and oxygen plants at Bir Hospital and in Dhangadhi and Surkhet, and distributed oxygen concentrators, PPE kits, PCR testing equipment, and N-95 masks across all seven provinces.

Bill Gates, through the Gates Foundation, has been a prominent global supporter of initiatives in health, education, and technology. He was among the key speakers at the PAA-2025 conference, which gathered world leaders, philanthropists, and policymakers.
