Visiting artists from Nepal and Maldives present works at PNCA’s South Asian Residency Exhibition

KATHMANDU: The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) announced the opening of the South Asian Artist Residency Program 2025 exhibition, which showcased works created by visiting artists from Nepal and the Maldives following a month-long cultural immersion throughout Pakistan.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated by a distinguished panel of dignitaries, including Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines; Rita Dhital, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan; Aishath Yasmeen, Head of Mission from the Maldives; Chen Peng, Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China; Shahnawaz, Director (South Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs; M. Ayoub Jamali, Director General of PNCA; and Mariam Ahmed, Coordinator & Curator.

The exhibition featured a captivating collection of artworks inspired by the artists’ journey through Pakistan’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage, including historical Lahore, coastal Karachi, and the majestic northern region of Skardu.

Reflecting on their experiences, the artists expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity. Bidhata KC shared, “One of the most wonderful experiences—Pakistan has always been a source of inspiration for me, especially through the richness of its artistic heritage. There’s a timeless beauty in its art that continues to move me deeply.”

Aishath Laisha Saud noted, “The exhibition went smoothly, and everyone present was very kind. I was nervous, but it was okay.” Meanwhile, Mariyam Barsha Mohamed added, “It was my first residency, and I was very grateful to have had the opportunity to explore such a beautiful country and to showcase my work.”

“Each piece represented not merely a visual record but a deeply personal interpretation of Pakistan’s multifaceted identity—its historical grandeur, natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and human warmth,” said Mariam Ahmed, program coordinator and exhibition curator.
