KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has remarked that former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ made his recent statements after realizing he may not return to the top post.

Speaking during a special session in Parliament, NC spokesperson and lawmaker Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat commented on Prachanda’s mindset.

“He believed that whether he allied with the Nepali Congress or the UML, he would always remain Prime Minister. But now that situation has ended, and I feel his statements are influenced by that realization,” Mahat said.

He also recalled Prachanda’s remarks after breaking the previous coalition with NC and forming a government with UML.

“When he left the coalition with Congress, he blamed the economic situation and claimed the finance minister did not cooperate. But now, he is repeatedly saying his government achieved significant milestones under his leadership,” Mahat remarked.

As the finance minister in the previous NC-Maoist coalition, Mahat pointed out that the country was facing an economic downturn at the time.

“We made strong efforts to drive economic progress, and our contribution was crucial. Prachanda should acknowledge that,” he added.

Mahat clarified that Congress does not see Prachanda’s comments as unusual.

“Opposition parties criticize the government. We don’t take it as something abnormal,” he said.
