Japan’s Ambassador Maeda meets PM Karki, assures support for timely elections



KATHMANDU: Japan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Toru Maeda, held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Friday to discuss various aspects of Nepal–Japan relations as the two countries mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, where the two sides exchanged views on commemorating seven decades of partnership and expanding future cooperation.

On the occasion, Ambassador Maeda praised the government’s commitment to holding elections on time and reiterated Japan’s readiness to provide any necessary support Nepal may require. He reaffirmed that Japan stands prepared to assist in areas prioritized by the Nepal government.

Prime Minister Karki thanked the Government of Japan for its longstanding assistance across Nepal’s development sectors, including infrastructure, health, education and governance. She expressed confidence that Japan’s cooperation and goodwill would continue in the coming years.

Both sides expressed optimism that the 70th anniversary would serve as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues of collaboration.
