NA members call for effective implementation of govt’s policies and programs

KATHMANDU; Members of the National Assembly (NA) have emphasized the need for effective implementation of the government’s newly announced annual policies and programs for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025/26).

During today’s NA meeting, lawmakers discussed the policies and programs presented by President Ramchandra Paudel during the joint session of the House of Representatives and National Assembly on May 2.

Narayan Dutta Bhatta remarked that the programs covered all necessary areas, while Rajendra Laxmi Gaire welcomed the government’s pledge to ensure access to clean drinking water for all by the next fiscal year.

Rukmini Koirala praised the proposals addressing gender-based violence and efforts to raise international awareness about the climate crisis and its effects on mountain communities.

However, Jhakku Prasad Subedi criticized the document, saying it lacked initiatives geared toward achieving a socialism-oriented socio-economic transformation. He added that the programmes failed to reflect the aspirations of the Nepali people.

Narayan Dutta Mishra highlighted the need for strong implementation, especially regarding economic growth and anti-corruption measures. He also called for guaranteed minimum pricing for farmers’ produce.

Radheshyam Paswan stressed the importance of effectively enforcing the proposed policies related to agriculture, health, tourism, drinking water, and youth development.

Bishnudevi Pudasaini appreciated the government’s focus on entrepreneurship, employment generation, agricultural productivity, and improving education quality. She also welcomed the alignment of programmes across the three tiers of government.

Other lawmakers, including Renu Chand, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota, Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Maya Prasad Sharma, and Tulasa Kumari Dahal, also shared their views during the discussion.

NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal informed the assembly that deliberations on the policies and programmes would continue in the next session, scheduled for Tuesday at 12:15 PM.
