KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has criticized the government for failing to implement the seven-point agreement reached during its formation.
Speaking to the media at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Monday, Koirala said the government has not fulfilled its commitments, including constitutional amendments, economic reform, anti-corruption measures, ending impunity, and ensuring good governance.
He emphasized that any constitutional review should be conducted only after consulting all political parties and relevant stakeholders, not merely through the two-thirds majority of the UML and Congress.
Koirala also dismissed rumors of internal rifts within the Nepali Congress, clarifying that there is no internal conflict. Refuting claims that he is attempting to topple the government, he asserted that the current coalition has no room for failure.
He questioned the need for a joint mechanism between UML and Congress, arguing that if any such body is necessary, it should be formed within the framework of the government itself.
“There is no problem within the Nepali Congress. Some media are spreading false narratives,” he said. “The claim that I’m trying to overthrow the government is baseless. What I’m saying is simple — if we truly respect democratic processes, there should be no external mechanism. Extending a Congress-UML mechanism all the way down to municipalities is wrong.”
