Minister Khadka calls for timely completion of Rupa Tal Conservation Project

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka instructed the concerned agencies for timely completion of conservation efforts for Rupa Tal in Kaski district.

Inspecting the works related to conservation of the Rupa Lake in Kaski here today, he emphasized the importance of meeting deadline for the project’s completion.

The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project has been undertaking the development and conservation of this freshwater lake.

Located at an altitude of 600 metres from the sea level, Rupa Tal is the third biggest lake in Pokhara valley famed for lakes, covering an area of approximately 1.22 hectares.

Minister Khadka, during the inspection, assured that his Ministry will ensure that there will not be budgetary constraints for the conservation bid.

“The Rupa Tal has its own historical significance. Add more human resources and maintain quality during the delivery of the Project,” the Minister directed.

At present, the Project is building a 45-metre concrete dam and another of mud spanning 590 metres.

These dams will help expand the size of Rupa Lake to 183 hectares. Project Chief Bidurman Shrestha shared that of the 1,100 ropani of land around the Lake required to build walkway around the Lake, 900 ropani have been already acquired.
