UML to use electronic voting machines for leadership selection at upcoming convention

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) to elect its new leadership during the upcoming 11th National General Convention.

UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali said the party opted for EVMs to ensure a faster and more efficient voting process, adding that the tender process has already been initiated. The party had used similar machines during its 10th General Convention held in Chitwan.

“We have decided to use electronic voting machines for leadership selection,” Gyawali said. “The tender has been called, and the company will be finalized soon.”

This year’s convention will elect 15 office-bearers and a 251-member Central Committee, after the second Statute Convention held in September endorsed a proposal to reduce the committee size.

Around 2,200 delegates are expected to participate in the three-day convention, scheduled for December 13 to 15 in Kathmandu. The closed session will be held at Bhrikutimandap.
