Players’ Association protests ANFA-club agreement, calls it injustice to footballers

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Football Players’ Association (NFPA) has expressed dissatisfaction over the recent agreement between the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and A-Division clubs to suspend this year’s A-Division League.

The association said the decision has placed players’ careers and livelihoods at risk, calling it a grave injustice to professional footballers.

In a statement on Tuesday, the NFPA announced that it would launch a protest against the agreement and urged all players and stakeholders to join their movement.

As per the understanding reached between ANFA and A-Division clubs on Monday, a National League will be held this year, starting from December, while the A-Division League will return next year in a home-and-away format.

The National League will feature 10 teams, six top clubs from last season’s A-Division (Church Boys United, Machhindra FC, Nepal Police Club, Jawalakhel Youth Club, Satdobato Youth Club, and NRT), along with four teams from the upcoming ANFA President’s League to be held in Makwanpur.

The National League champion will earn a spot in the AFC Challenge League, while the next A-Division League is scheduled to begin in December 2026.
