RSP lawmaker says public will never forget Home Minister’s link to visa scandal

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Asim Shah has claimed that the public will never forget Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s alleged involvement in the controversial visit visa case.

Speaking at the start of Monday’s House of Representatives meeting during the time allocated by Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, Shah questioned the government’s handling of the matter.

“Mr. Speaker, I want to ask the Home Minister where the files on human traffickers operating under the guise of visit visas have gone,” he said. “Do not make the mistake of thinking that people will forget this case. They will not, and we will not allow them to forget.”

Shah also objected to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent remarks labeling the RSP as anti-establishment and anti-parliament.

“Recently, the Prime Minister called the RSP anti-establishment and anti-parliament. It reminded me of a couplet by Ghalib: ‘All my life I made the same mistake — the dust was on my face, but I kept cleaning the mirror.’ The dust is on the faces of your cabinet members, yet you blame the RSP for showing you the mirror,” Shah said.

He further criticized the lack of action against former minister Rajkumar Gupta, despite an audio recording allegedly capturing him negotiating a bribe deal.

“What kind of tradition is this? Evidence of bribery is made public, proof of corruption surfaces, and after resigning, all is forgiven? Has resignation become a holy dip in the Ganga to wash away corruption?” Shah said. “Former minister Gupta resigned, the investigation file was closed, but why are other ministers and ex-ministers named in the same audio being shielded by invisible forces?”
