Rainfall obstructs Narayanghat-Butwal Road and Kanti Lokpath

NAWALPARASI: The Narayanghat–Butwal section of the East-West Highway has been blocked due to continuous rainfall since Saturday night.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, slippery conditions caused by persistent rain in the Daunne section—currently under expansion—led to halted traffic as vehicles began to skid.

Authorities have urged travelers to use alternative routes, as the road has become completely impassable.

The situation worsened with the road already closed for nightly expansion work from 11 PM to 5 AM, causing a significant buildup of vehicles.

Kanti Lokpath also obstructed

Similarly, Kanti Lokpath, connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu, has also been closed due to overnight rain.

The Makawanpur District Police Office reported that a diversion over the Bagmati River—located between Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-8 of Makawanpur and Bagmati Rural Municipality-2 of Lalitpur—was washed away by rising floodwaters, disrupting traffic since 6 AM.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Aryal said a police team has been dispatched to the site and efforts are underway to reopen the route.

Travelers heading to Kathmandu from Hetauda have been advised to use alternative roads.
