‘Panchebaja’ training launched to preserve culture

TANAHU: Myagde Rural Municipality in Tanahu has initiated ‘Panchebaja’ (traditional music) training with the dual objective of preserving cultural heritage and fostering self-employment through skill development.

The training aims to equip individuals with musical skills while promoting the traditional art of ‘Panchebaja’, a cultural symbol in Nepali society.

The rural municipality has targeted unemployed men and women lacking vocational skills, providing them with training to become self-reliant and to contribute to the preservation and promotion of cultural traditions.

Pradeep Neupane, head of the Economic Development Branch of the municipality, informed that 19 individuals from Myagde Ward No. 6 have been trained in Panchebaja.

He expressed confidence that such skill-building initiatives will empower local youth and ensure the intergenerational transmission of cultural knowledge.

The municipality also stated that the number of individuals becoming entrepreneurs has increased due to training provided under the Micro Enterprise Development Program (MEDP) for poverty alleviation.

Neupane emphasized that the municipality is committed to involving skill-deficient individuals in such programs to improve their livelihoods.

He further mentioned that household surveys, orientation sessions, and entrepreneurship development training have been carried out for those aspiring to acquire skills and start businesses.

In the fiscal year 2081/82, a total of 68 individuals received such training as part of the municipality’s poverty alleviation initiative.

Rural Municipality Chairman Shree Prasad Shrestha expressed his belief that the Panchebaja training would play a vital role in preserving and transmitting cultural traditions.

He said the training not only supports cultural heritage but also creates sustainable employment and income opportunities.

Vice-Chairman Balkrishna Ghimire encouraged participants to apply their skills in practice, linking cultural preservation with income generation and long-term self-reliance.

Hiralal Gurung, Chairman of Myagde-6 Ward, highlighted the potential of transforming acquired skills into sustainable businesses.

He affirmed that the ward is working to equip the target community with the necessary tools for cultural preservation and entrepreneurship.

Narayan Prasad Adhikari, Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, said that the training was initiated in response to demands from local unemployed youth. He expressed hope that such efforts would lead to increased self-employment.

DP Adhikari, District Chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, remarked that the training would help preserve endangered cultural practices and motivate individuals to pursue self-reliance through skill development. He encouraged the use of these newly acquired skills for generating income.

Myagde Rural Municipality aims to promote local and domestic production, enhance employment, and foster economic prosperity through entrepreneurship and skill-based training.
