NC MPs voice frustration over govt’s policies and programs
Lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC) have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s unveiled policies and programs, raising concerns that their party’s identity and priorities are being sidelined in the ruling coalition.
During a parliamentary party meeting held at the Lhotse Hall of the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Saturday, several NC MPs voiced frustration that the policies presented in Parliament on Friday did not reflect the spirit of the ruling alliance.
According to an MP who attended the meeting, some lawmakers felt the government’s agenda failed to incorporate the Nepali Congress’s key messaging and slogans. “Some MPs expressed dissatisfaction, saying the policies and programs seem to have forgotten the concept of an alliance,” the MP told Khabarhub.
Govt’s policies and programs reflect right direction for ensuring stability
Prime Minister (PM) and CPN-UML Parliamentary Party leader KP Sharma Oli has called on party lawmakers to firmly support the Government of Nepal’s policies and programs recently presented in the Federal Parliament, stating they reflect the right direction for ensuring stability, development, and good governance.
Addressing a meeting of the UML Parliamentary Party at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday, Oli said the government is committed to promoting stability and accelerating economic growth through effective governance.
Nepal records highest monthly tourist arrivals in five years
Nepal welcomed a record number of foreign tourists in April, with over 116,000 visitors arriving in the country—the highest monthly figure in the past five years.
According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 116,490 foreign tourists visited Nepal in April 2025, up from 111,376 in April 2024 and 98,773 in 2023.
The consistent growth in tourist arrivals since the COVID-19 pandemic reflects a strong recovery in the tourism sector and increasing global interest in Nepal, the Board noted in a recent press release.
NC to support govt policies with constructive feedback
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to support the government’s newly presented policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83, while offering positive and constructive feedback during parliamentary discussions.
A meeting of the NC parliamentary party, chaired by party president and parliamentary leader Sher Bahadur Deuba at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Saturday, endorsed the decision to second the policies and programs unveiled on Friday.
Parliamentary party chief whip Shyam Ghimire informed that the meeting resolved to urge the government to align the upcoming budget with the priorities outlined in the policies and programs.
‘Youths shouldering responsibility of nation building’
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Sekhar Koirala has said youths were shouldering the responsibility of nation building.
During a programme organized to distribute full-time membership of Nepal Tarun Dal at Nawalparasi Purba today, leader Koirala said as the present youths will head the country in future, they should keep nation in centre.
For the sake of nation, nationality, democracy and economic development, the informed and active role of youths is vital, he stressed.
Policies and Programs’ focused on socioeconomic transformation: Minister Singh
Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has stated that the government’s newly announced policies and programmes are aimed at driving socioeconomic transformation across the country.
Speaking at the 11th establishment day of Syasya Samaj Yala in Lalitpur today, DPM Singh said the policies and programs introduced for the upcoming fiscal year are aligned with the implementation of the constitution and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
“The current government was formed to ensure political stability and improve people’s livelihoods,” he said. “We must not forget the rights we have secured through long and arduous struggle.”
Press crucial for upholding republic and Constitution: Prachanda
Maoist Centre Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the critical role of the press in upholding the constitution and institutionalizing the federal democratic republic in Nepal.
Extending his best wishes on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Chairman Dahal expressed hope that the occasion would inspire journalists to carry out their responsibilities with fairness and accountability.
He noted that the media has significantly contributed to consolidating the achievements of Nepal’s people’s movement, which aimed at political and social transformation.
As many as 800 Nepalis receive services at passport and health camp in UAE
More than 800 Nepali citizens received direct assistance during a passport renewal service camp organized by the Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi from April 17 to 18.
The Embassy also hosted a free health camp on Friday targeting Nepali workers in the UAE, where over 300 individuals benefited from various medical services.
A medical team led by Dr. Yashir Shrestha from Ahilya Hospital in Abu Dhabi offered free eye checkups, diabetes screenings, and blood pressure tests. In addition to the health screenings, Dr. Shrestha also interacted with participants, sharing valuable advice on managing physical and mental health issues, the Embassy reported.
Birgunj Dry Port collects Rs 36.83 billion in revenue over nine months
The Birgunj Dry Port Customs Office at Sirsiya has collected Rs 36.83 billion in revenue over the first nine months of the current fiscal year, achieving 61.34 percent of its annual target.
According to Information Officer Yubaraj Bhattarai, revenue collection has been steadily increasing in recent months. The customs office collected Rs 3.75 billion in the month of Shrawan, followed by Rs 4.64 billion in Bhadra, Rs 4.36 billion in Asoj, and Rs 3.79 billion in Kartik.
NHRC urges protection of journalists and press freedom
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on the government to uphold and protect freedom of expression and press freedom. In a statement issued on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day today, the NHRC urged the government and all concerned stakeholders to fully respect these freedoms as guaranteed by Nepal’s constitution, national laws, and international human rights instruments.
TikTok launches Family Pairing feature to boost youth safety in Nepal
TikTok has announced the rollout of its Family Pairing feature in Nepal, reinforcing its commitment to promoting safe and responsible online experiences for younger users.
The new feature allows parents and guardians to link their TikTok accounts with those of their teenagers, giving them access to a range of safety and privacy controls. These tools aim to help families manage screen time, restrict inappropriate content, and guide healthy digital habits.
“This initiative is part of TikTok’s broader efforts to support digital wellbeing and ensure families can enjoy the platform in a safer, more informed way,” the company said in a press release. Parents can activate Family Pairing through the app’s “Settings and Privacy” menu.
Law Minister calls for coordination, cooperation, and consensus among all levels of govt
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, on Saturday emphasized the need for greater coordination, cooperation, and consensus among the three tiers of government—federal, provincial, and local—for effective lawmaking and governance.
Speaking at a discussion on intergovernmental legislative relations and law scrutiny, jointly organized by the Bagmati Province Government, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, and the Federalism and Localization Center (FLC), Minister Chaurasiya highlighted the ongoing efforts in legislative reform since the promulgation of the new constitution.
Nagdhunga–Naubise road section to close at night from May 5
The Nagdhunga–Naubise section of the Tribhuvan Highway will be closed nightly from May 5 to May 14 due to ongoing construction and improvement work on the Nagdhunga–Piplamod road segment.
The Nagdhunga–Mugling Road Project (Eastern Section) has stated that preparations are underway to manage traffic during the closure period. Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, confirmed coordination with the relevant authorities to implement the necessary measures.
