Joint efforts essential for a secure and prosperous future: PM

BANGKOK: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, addressing a program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand on Thursday, emphasized the necessity of collective efforts to ensure a secure and prosperous future for humanity.

During his official visit to Thailand and participation in the sixth BIMSTEC summit, Prime Minister Oli highlighted Nepal’s commitment to human happiness, prosperity, security, and self-respect.

Referring to the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis,” he stated that nothing is more significant than happiness alongside human desires.

He also urged the international community to collaborate at national, regional, and global levels to address pressing global issues, including climate change.

Addressing an audience that included Nepali teachers and students, Prime Minister Oli stressed the importance of modernizing agriculture and producing skilled human resources for the 21st century.

He expressed confidence that AIT-trained professionals would contribute significantly to Nepal’s water resource management and other key development sectors.

In a major announcement, the Prime Minister pledged $100,000 to a research, study, and scholarship fund established by AIT in Nepal.

Nepali Ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Bahadur Wali, noted that Nepal ranks fourth in the number of foreign students at AIT and emphasized the country’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the institution.

At present, 181 Nepali students are enrolled at AIT, with 1,795 Nepali students having graduated from the institution. Additionally, seven Nepali faculty members serve at AIT, three of whom are on the Board of Trustees.
