UML backs Pathibhara Cable Car project, calls for smooth implementation

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has decided to support the construction of the Pathibhara Cable Car in Phungling, Taplejung, emphasizing the need for a conducive environment to advance the project.

Following a party secretariat meeting on Sunday, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel stated that the party would work towards ensuring a smooth path for construction, despite ongoing protests from religious activists demanding the project’s cancellation.

“The dispute surrounding the Pathibhara cable car should be addressed through discussions among local administration, representatives, and stakeholders,” said Pokharel. “Our party has decided to draw the attention of the government and relevant authorities to facilitate the project’s progress.”

UML’s stance comes as religious activists continue a protest march in Kathmandu, opposing the IME Group-led cable car project in Mukkumlung. However, the party maintains that resolving the controversy and creating a favorable environment for construction is essential.
